What is Sankalp and Types of Sankalp?

What is Sankalp?

Sankalp is the name of choosing any one wish from the infinite sea of wishes and giving it a concrete form. That is why the work done with determination definitely yields results. It is said in 'Manu Smriti'- Sankalpamoolah Kamau Vai Yagnaah Sankalpa Sambhavaah. Vrata Niyam Karmaashcha Sarve Sankalpajaah Smritaah.

All the wishes of a man are manifested through Sankalp. All the Yagyas are performed only after Sankalp. It is very important to make Sankalp before any daily, occasional, desired, transcendental, spiritual, selfless and relevant rituals. Broadly speaking, Sankalp includes eleven things - place, time, own lineage, wish, deity based on Sankalp, action, special form of the work, time period of the work, pronunciation of other secondary works related to the work, Ganesh Vandana and Punyaah recitation.

During the Sankalp, there is a rule to release water three times while saying 'Karishye' while holding rice in the hand. The continuity of the karma is indicated by the rice. At the time of releasing the water, the presence of the deity of the water lord there makes that karma a witness. If at such a time, due to laziness, unwillingness and procrastination, the karma is abandoned in between, then Varuna snatches away its fruit. In this context, this saying of 'Taittiriya Brahmana' is especially noteworthy- Anrite Khasuvaikriyamane Varuno Grihayati Apsuvai Varanah.

If the Sankalp is not true, then Varuna snatches away the fruit of that karma, that is, that karma becomes futile. The water which is released for the Sankalp is called 'Udak'. A Sankalp made without Udak is completely futile, such There is indication in the scriptures. Sankalp is necessary on some occasions, but if it is impossible to get a net, then Sankalp can be done by keeping one's hand on a coconut or betel nut or by holding Tulsi Belpatra in hand. If this is also not possible, then just make a mental Sankalp and later make a formal Sankalp as per your convenience. If you cannot make a formal Sankalp, then releasing water after pronouncing the nature of the work, the deity, the duration of the festival etc. in your mother tongue is also sufficient.

Types of Sankalp?

According to the nature, there are four main types of Sankalp, namely Nitya, Naimittik, Nishkam and Prasangiya. Out of these, Nitya Sankalp is pronounced at the time of Aanhik. There is a provision of Mahasankalp while starting Guru Charitra Parayan, Shrimad Bhagwat Saptah, Saur, Rudra, Chandi, Atharvashirsha, Manyasukta, Pavaman, Brahmanaspati Sukta and Shiv Kavach etc. which last for many days. After that, Nitya Sankalp is pronounced before starting a special ritual on that day. It is very important to pronounce the wish in detail in Mahasankalp.  Thereafter, in the daily resolution, the word Sankalpokt Falavaptye Sankalpokt Sankarvya Paripurtaye Cha is formed.

According to the resolution, after fulfilling the resolution every day and completing all the rituals, there is a need to fulfill the great resolution.  In daily resolution fulfillment, one has to compose the words Anen Sankalpokt Falvaptye Sankalpokt Sankarvya Paripurtaye Cha Kriten.  At the time of fulfillment of Maha Sankalp, pronounce the entire wish or by changing it a bit like above, pronounce the entire wish and saying Anen Sankalpokt Phalvaaptaye Kriten, the resolution should be fulfilled.  In most of the routine tasks, the sequence is Mahasankalp, Nitya Sankalp, Nitya Sankalp fulfillment and Mahasankalp fulfillment.  Even before performing the ritual selflessly, resolution is necessary.

People of some sects only pronounce Mamopatduritakshaya, but this Sankalp is in a way a desire. Destruction of sins is also a very big wish. Some people also resolve to love a certain deity or to attain a certain deity, but love or attainment is also a wish. Love and attainment cannot be obtained by making a resolution and asking for it, complete surrender is necessary for that. Therefore, to make a resolution in a true sense without any desire, it is enough to say so and so devatamuddishya.

The relevant Sankalp contains some words of 'pray' or 'complaint'. It is pronounced loudly by the head of the family.Other people of family respond at the end of each sentence by saying 'Yes Maharaja!' or 'Yes mother.' While making other Sankalpas, no such practice is done formally. Still, because such an atmosphere is created, they are especially effective and result-oriented.
