Why chant with a rosary? (Mala)
Why chant with a rosary?
While chanting, keep the rosary on the middle knuckle of the right hand's middle finger and pull each bead of the rosary towards you with the thumb. While pulling, keep in mind that the beads of the rosary should not fall on each other. Therefore, the beads of the rosary should be strung together. If a bead falls and makes a sound while chanting, then that chanting becomes futile - this is what the scriptures believe. The only purpose behind this is that the beads of the rosary can fall on each other or break by rubbing. While chanting, as soon as the Meru Mani comes, turn the rosary upside down. Do not chant by crossing the Meru Mani under any circumstances. If by mistake the Meru Mani is violated, then do Pranayam 6 times. Similarly, if the rosary falls from the hand while chanting, it is inauspicious. To get rid of this inauspiciousness, one should do Pranayam 6 times.
If the rosary falls and breaks while chanting, then consider it to be indicative of a calamity and chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. There is no scriptural indication about the number of times you should chant this mantra. However, in general, to avoid untimely death, chant forty thousand mantras as per the Ayuta Chatushtaya Vachan. But if the thread or yarn of the rosary is raw, then chant in sequence. While chanting, use 'Gomukhi' as much as possible. If there is no Gomukhi, then cover the hand holding the rosary with a clean cloth. One person should use only one rosary. Neither you should use another's rosary nor let someone else use your rosary. As soon as you take the rosary in your hand, first bow to it. After chanting, keep the rosary in a box. If someone has used it, do not give that rosary to someone else as a gift. The Guru can give that rosary to his disciple. But never use the rosary received from the Guru or in memory of a dead person for chanting.
