Why Pradakshina?

Among the deities established in different regions, some deities are Darshan Pradhan and some are Pradakshina Pradhan. Especially in the regions of Datta, there is a tradition of worshipping by doing Pradakshina. On the contrary, in the regions like Tirumalai, Guruvayur, Rameswaram, Varanasi, Pandharpur and Puri, once the deity is seen, then it is considered as Pradakshina Pradhan.
There is no facility to do darshan or pradakshina again. In such areas, worship is done through naam sankirtan. By doing pradakshina with physical effort, the deity has subtle effects on the body, senses and mind.

The reason for this is that by keeping the right side towards the deity and doing seventy pradakshinas at a slow pace, a subtle electrical process is achieved. Pradakshina is an excellent means to remove the disorders of the body, intellect and mind. Pradakshina gives a good exercise to the hands and feet. As a result, the body gets purified. Chanting through voice purifies the speech. By sitting still at one place, hundreds of thoughts arise in the mind, but while doing pradakshina, the number of thoughts is less and the mind gets purified. By having the aim of the number of pradakshinas in front, there is no indifference and impurity in the mind. People suffering from mental disorders become healthy by worshipping the deity through pradakshina.
