Why Tilak on the forehead?/Why apply bhasma?
Why Tilak on the forehead?
In the context of the method of wearing Tilak in 'Kathaopanishad', the description of Nadi has been given in this way- Among the Nadis of the heart, the Nadi named Sushumna emerges from the front part of the head. The upward path of salvation emerges from this Nadi. All other Nadis spread in all four directions after Pranautkramana, but the path of Sushumna remains in the upward direction only. Every person has a deep line on the forehead from which the upper part of Sushumna is clearly visible.
Considering Sushumna Nadi as the center, different types of Tilak are worn on the forehead according to their respective sects. Applying sandalwood paste on Sushumna is a special process conducive to spirituality. Out of the two Nadis flowing from the nose, the left Nadi is Pingala Dhan and the right Nadi is Ida Kanan. Applying tilak on Sushumna is very useful to stop the heat generated during the flow of positive electricity.
Why apply bhasma?
Before wearing tilak, apply bhasma on the entire body. Bhasma contains many stimulants and various chemical components that remove odor and stimulate the mind. There is a misconception that applying bhasma closes the pores of the body, but the actual situation is different. Bhasma has the ability to absorb the contaminated substances present inside the body. Not only this; bhasma is effective, kills germs and reduces inflammation. Due to this, applying bhasma regularly on the joints, skull, both parts of the chest and back etc. of the body does not cause the occurrence of diseases like arthritis. It also increases the beauty and radiance of the body.
Apart from this, various traditional mantras are also chanted while applying bhasma on the body. Take bhasma in the hand, wet it a little and apply it with the index, middle and ring fingers. These three fingers are the symbol of Pitra, Atma and Dev Tirthas. While applying ash, wear Urdhapundu or Tripundra. After this, apply Tilak. The method of applying Tilak and Tilak symbols of different sects are according to their element system.
